By Edi PALOKA Arben Imami stated as recently as yesterday that the Constitution had been approved: “Regardless of the referendum’s result, it has passed in the Albanian Parliament and is considered approved.” Skënder Gjinushi said the same some time ago. Just a few days after the referendum on approving the Constitution was announced, Gjinushi said that the referendum had only formal value, since the Constitution had been approved by Parliament, and that this was enough for it to be considered approved regardless of the referendum’s result. As can therefore be seen, for the officials everything is over, and now they are making fools of their followers by sending them out to vote. What do they need a referendum for, if, according to the officials, the Constitution has already been approved?! The officials have long understood that they are a minority in Albania and have no one’s support as a result of all the events that have taken place in Albania in recent years and of their entire record in government. They themselves made the blunder of privatizing the Constitution and politicizing it, and now they lament the consequences. For this reason, knowing that they can no longer get votes from Albanians, they devised a referendum law in which the minority would decide over the majority. But this law and their constant manipulations have not achieved their aim. The officials have turned the Constitution they themselves drafted into a success for themselves. In these circumstances, that is, when the Constitution had to be declared approved regardless of the fact that people did not vote for it in the referendum, they prepared their plan.
