Hunger strikers demand our solidarity
Let us gather today at 11:00, in front of Azem Hajdari's memorial
Young democrats across the country will demonstrate in front of the students as well as in the district prefectures. The young people of the Youth Forum of the PDSH, the new democratic youth of the country, were organizing yesterday and today a number of activities in support of the striking students who continue their resistance, giving a strong and civic response to the government. Around 11:00 today, young democrats will gather in front of Azem Hajdari's memorial, where they will hold a large rally in support of the students' hunger strikes in the university buildings. Young democrats will protest against the police and state violence used against students, for respect for human rights and democratic freedoms.

“Alia’s jeans” and “Majko’s heaters”
Although Gam Aleksi's spokesperson yesterday said the opposite, 120 students of the general university [?] still continue the 2nd day of the hunger strike in the law school premises. On the other hand, the chairman of the socialist youth forum told journalists yesterday that starting tomorrow there will be heating in the university as well as in the student cafeterias. Ironically, despite this statement, the country's prime minister, with dark humor, proudly declared that in Albania a large amount of oil is “hidden,” which has remained unexploited for decades. In this way, students must not only freeze in lecture halls and dormitories, but must also feel guilty for asking for minimum conditions.
If these two images are compared, one with students locked in a hunger strike and the other with the mocking promises of heaters, the end of the communist regime years immediately comes to mind. At that time Ramiz Alia distributed jeans to students to soften the revolt and create the idea of a false liberalization. Today, 9 years after the fall of the wall, instead of jeans, students are being offered heaters, as if their problem were simply the temperature of the rooms and not freedom, dignity, and the lack of prospects.
In truth, what is happening is the usual attempt by power to treat youth as a crowd that can be bought with small concessions. Yet today's students are not asking for favors or propaganda decoration. They are asking for conditions, rights, safety, and respect. Anyone who saw their faces yesterday in front of the faculties understands that this movement will not be extinguished by radiators and statements. It is a moral protest against a state that has lost the ability to listen.
ENGLISH: “Alia’s jeans” and “Majko’s heaters.” By Enza. The commentary contrasts student hunger strikers with government promises of heating in dormitories and universities. It recalls the late communist era, when Ramiz Alia allegedly tried to calm student unrest with symbolic gifts, and argues that today's students are asking not for favors but for rights, dignity and humane conditions.
