The manipulated footage broadcast last night by Mazi’s television is an insult to the thousands of Tirana citizens who took part in the Rally for Democracy, and also to the thousands of others across Albania who think as they do about the crisis into which Fatos Nano’s clique has plunged Albania. Having long since grown accustomed to footage filmed from helicopters well before opposition rallies begin, Albanians will learn to scrutinize every day the manipulated images served up on the small screen by Nano’s and Mazi’s lackeys.

Despite the announcements by the Ministry of the Interior, the government media and the left-wing press about terrorist acts at the DP rally, nothing of the sort happened. The government’s protectionist posture, driven by their desire for such a thing to happen, quickly faded. It was enough for the Democrats to take to the streets and march peacefully for Ceka’s crime-filled fantasy to remain just that. They still keep them in their pockets. Frok Çupi, who issues all of Neritan Ceka’s crooked ideas through the state news agency, keeps them for Neritan himself, along with his sycophantic spokesman; the director of TV, Eduart Mazi, and the heads of the government and pro-government left-wing press keep them too. The government officials, shaken by the DP rallies, unleashed a human arsenal of terror to frighten people. It is the same scheme used during last year’s campaign in Elbasan, Lushnje, Durrës, etc. The same thing was repeated four days ago in Lushnje and Berat. The terror two nights ago emerged, quite clearly, from the very building that is supposed to fight it: the Ministry of the Interior. This means that the Albanian police—or, more precisely, its leaders—have changed their mission. People should not be afraid when pressure is exerted by the Democratic Party, but rather of the criminalized elements within the Ministry of the Interior, the former bandits who have been promoted and former secret police agents summoned back to their old offices. They are precisely the ones who a year ago pelted passersby with stones in the streets of Tirana and shot people dead in the city of Vlora. People are much safer at DP rallies than in their own homes, in cafés, or on the street, where the Ministry of the Interior’s terror can naturally come to search you, install listening devices, have operatives tail you, shoot you with a bullet, and then in the evening Cupi, Mazi and the Ministry of the Interior’s sycophantic spokesman announce that it was a gang incident. Remember Shkodra, which on the night of February 22 was completely under Ceka’s control.
