Nano 4, the old government

Berisha received the word Saliq, the well-known Greek institutionalist Tasos: The opposition’s demands are justified PD leader Berisha received yesterday at the party headquarters professor Takis H. Batas, president of the Center for Research and Politics of Southeast Europe, who is taking part in a Balkan seminar organized in Tirana with the participation of representatives of politics, institutions and the media in the region. The interlocutors shared the view that next year will be of special importance for our country, both in terms of domestic developments and integration processes. They stressed the serious situation created recently in Albania as a result of the extreme politicization of the state administration and the structures of the State Police, the capture of public electronic media by the government and the real risk of undermining the independence of the justice bodies. Berisha acquainted professor Batas with the PD’s position regarding the latest political developments in the country and its platform for resolving the crisis. After the meeting, Professor Batas gave this statement to the press: "To be honest, after seeing what has been happening in Albania in recent weeks, I have become truly very concerned. After a troubled year, I expected Albania to return to some kind of stability. However, that has not happened. This is worrying because, with the problems that exist in the Balkan region, I think Albania cannot play a constructive role. I think I agree with some of the opposition’s findings regarding three issues. First, the economic situation is worse than a few months ago. Second, corruption is on the rise. Third, the government has undertaken a series of senseless political measures that are harming the work of the state administration. The most serious problem, I think, is the deformation of collective behavior and mentalities through the criminalization of politics. The first thing that struck me is that the administration is being divided according to political views. This is also worrying from the point of view of Albania’s integration into Europe. In my opinion, the opposition has played a very constructive role. As for the issue of elections, they are democratic and it is the opposition’s right to call for early elections, especially when the government has lost its sense and prestige. It seems that Albania now needs a new government in order to restore people’s trust and give it a clear direction." At the press conference, when asked about the timeframe for resolving the crisis, Professor Batas said that "as soon as possible, because the longer it is delayed, the more Albania’s future is called into question."
