Albanians win NATO and lose the referendum

The USA lead the final phase of the talks on Kosovo The USA changes the reasoning for bombing, threatening that it will bomb anyway if NATO's presence in Kosovo is rejected By Endri ZAZE Rambouillet, 17 February The Albanian-American Civic League asks the Turkish president for strong support for Kosovo Where were you, Albanian institutions? Albanian history! At least that is how the Rambouillet conference will be remembered in history. In this carelessness of coming to this moment, we are giving the first proof that the Kosovars are serious, but a historic opportunity is also being created to return to a formula that would not be possible today. Can it be called a victory for the Albanians? There is no doubt that it is. But just as we have reached this peak, it seems as if someone has overheard how to diminish this gain. For Kosovo, it will be the first place in Albanian history to be occupied by an international force in the name of peace, to ensure that Albanians can live in their ancestral lands. This will not be a classic protectorate, but an international military and political presence that will strip Belgrade of full control over Kosovo.
