Thursday afternoon marked a new peak in SHIK’s terrorist activity in Tirana, while after midnight an explosive blast shook the center of the capital. The fact that after the morning explosion responsibility was immediately claimed in the name of the so-called UÇK once again shows the criminal link between this organization and SHIK structures. It is already known that the perpetrators of these acts of political terror in Tirana operate under SHIK’s umbrella and with the direct support of senior Presidency officials. The target of this terror has been not only the opposition and the independent press, but also every Kosovar political factor that does not submit to the line of violence and usurpation. The latest attacks come at a time when voices against the political and military adventurism of Hashim Thaçi’s group are growing. Instead of focusing energies on confronting the humanitarian catastrophe of the Kosovo Albanians, they are being spent on internal rivalries and on striking political opponents. SHIK has played the role of a political police force, following, threatening and attacking anyone who thinks differently. Instead of legal institutions, gangs with state support have taken their place. This climate of fear is seriously damaging not only political life in Albania, but also the Kosovo cause. If this terror is not stopped immediately, the consequences will be even more severe for the stability of the country and for the image of Albanians before the international public.
