NATO begins the liberation of Kosovo

Albanians celebrate the arrival of NATO troops in Pristina
Yesterday NATO began its triumphant march across Kosovo. At least, that is how the electrifying atmosphere in all the towns and villages of the province can be described, where thousands and thousands of Kosovo Albanians poured into the streets and urban centers to greet the presence of the forces of the North Atlantic Alliance. The way the NATO troops were welcomed throughout Kosovo gives the impression that normal life in this country had never died, that the joy for freedom is almost boundless. The citizens of Kosovo, without exception, now feel liberated and secure. From Pristina, Prizren, Ferizaj, Gjakova all the way to Mitrovica and Peja, there has not been a town or village where the entry of NATO troops was not welcomed with enthusiasm. Yesterday in the early hours of the morning, the first British units entered Pristina, while French forces were deployed in Gjilan, in eastern Kosovo. Today the German military units are expected to enter Prizren. But instead of the Alliance soldiers entering according to a normal scenario, an unexpected and strange episode raised no few doubts that the liberation of Kosovo would be accompanied by unpleasant surprises. For the first time since the end of NATO's air strikes against Yugoslavia, yesterday the first soldiers to enter Pristina were not those of the Alliance forces, but Russian military units. Openly defying NATO decisions and those of the great powers, the Russian contingent marched secretly all night from Bosnia toward Kosovo and reached Pristina before the Alliance forces arrived. Their deployment at Pristina airport made this unexpected act even clearer, and it was interpreted in many circles as an attempt by Moscow to create a fait accompli on the ground and challenge NATO's authority in Kosovo. The response from the USA and the other allies was immediate: all troops that will operate in Kosovo will be under NATO command and there will be no separate zones of influence for any country. This statement sought to dispel concerns about a possible partition of Kosovo or about an independent Russian role in KFOR. The Albanian population, however, continued to celebrate the arrival of the Western troops as the end of a long nightmare. After weeks of bombardment, cleansing and unspeakable suffering, NATO's entry was experienced as the return of hope and as a guarantee for the survival of Albanian Kosovo.

The government protects Azem Hajdari's killers
Today, 276 days since the killing of the Leader of December
Every day that passes since the killing of Azem Hajdari, state institutions continue to do nothing to uncover the truth of this serious event. The prosecution and other justice bodies have failed to identify and punish the perpetrators of the killing, while public opinion has been shaken by the lack of transparency and political will. This situation has raised strong suspicions that the government is not only failing to act, but is directly protecting Azem Hajdari's killers. Instead of a serious and impartial investigation, citizens are confronted with silence, manipulation and attempts to downplay the importance of the crime. The demand for justice has become a nationwide call, while family members, supporters and democratic public opinion await answers about an attack that dealt a severe blow to Albanian political life.
