By Mero BAZE The war is over and Kosovo has ahead of it the most vital task of justifying the victory of freedom. The commitment of NATO, the USA and the Western countries to the liberation of Kosovo is now a major obligation for Albanians, who must become worthy partners of the West in building peace. But Kosovo, liberated from Serbia and now a country facing major questions about building its future, the fierce confrontation with the sacrifices it had to pay for its freedom, and above all the challenge of building the state of Kosovo, will be the first test to justify not only the Albanians’ dream of independence, but also the historic commitment of the West in supporting the Albanian-Serbian issue. In a certain sense, in many respects the Albanians managed to become bearers of new values, while the Serbs became in this battle bearers of human anti-values, of primitivism and barbarity, and for this reason they were collectively punished by the West and expelled from Kosovo. Now the Albanians must prove that they have deserved to be on the side of the bearers of the new human values and that they will know how to build a future in which the West will be their partner. But what are the challenges the Albanians must face? Respect for Kosovo’s state-building passport Since 1989, the Albanians in Kosovo have managed to function as a society that survived without needing the Serbian administration. Kosovo managed to keep on its feet an army of teachers, a parallel education system, a healthcare system and a social assistance network, which in itself constituted the social certificate of a legitimate state for its citizens. All this became possible because the Albanians in Kosovo trusted their institutions, believed in their contribution to an independent state from Serbia, and succeeded in making it a reality. Now that the physical liberation from the Serbs has taken place in Kosovo, many enthusiastic and innocent people, but also inflated novices of the new political times, will try to ridicule Kosovo society and the way it functioned. But in fact, in Albanian history there has never been such a serious project as 2 million Albanians self-governing in that way, without major problems and internal conflicts. Whoever ignores this experience in building Kosovo society, and whoever tries to carry the revolutionary and "partisan" spirit into the uprooting of this state background of Kosovo from its foundations, will commit one of the historical crimes against Kosovo, because they will destroy Kosovo’s real state elements. The declaration of the Republic of Kosovo, the Kosovo parliament, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the institution of the President of the Republic of Kosovo itself are historical gestures in the formation of Kosovo’s state identity, but they are nevertheless less convincing for the West than the fact that today Kosovo society itself is a society that has rejected not only ethnically, but also administratively and politically, the sick Serbian society and has managed to survive independently from it, as a doubly taxed society, which paid for other jobs separate from Serbia and stole from the Serbian state, for that very reason. Recently some politicians in Kosovo have been trying to segment[?] moving together with the official Tirana are trying to use the words "Republic of Kosovo" and its institutional framework to their political advantage, with the revolutionary idea that bases must be created together with them. Those who act like this are selling land[?] panshq because they are not dealing only with formal institutions, but also with a real life, with a society that has lived by rejecting Serbia and by living and believing in its aspiration for independence. The West knows that Kosovo has relied above all on the will of Albanians not to live with Serbs, at any cost, but by giving its will to the state and the building of the state of Kosovo, rejecting the Serbian one. Here began the real battle for Kosovo’s freedom and until now, every movement in the name particularly by the elite has eroded the West’s hope in the values of Kosovo society. (continued on page 3)

Today, 291 days since the killing of the December Leader Every day that passes since the killing of Azem Hajdari, the symbol of democracy and pluralism, proves the involvement of the government of Fatos Nano and the Albanian League in a crime that has shaken the entire Albanian world. The government of the former communists is easily found by not holding accountable the criminals who took the life of the December Hero, as well as the hatred of Albanians who have been and are on the side of the killers, who have names and surnames, but are untouched by power. The Democrats and all Albanians who loved and honored Azem Hajdari cannot tolerate this fact in any way. The government must either catch and bring the criminals before justice, or it must publicly declare that it itself carried out the killing of Azem Hajdari.
