The Albanian prime minister makes changes to the Italian government . Meta meets the singer, while Berisha meets the diplomat. Prime Minister Meta makes changes to the Italian government. A statement from the prime minister’s spokesperson says that Mr. Meta received the Italian undersecretary for foreign affairs, Massimo Ranieri, at a working meeting. In fact, Mr. Massimo Ranieri is a well-known Italian singer from the 1970s, who has no connection whatsoever to politics. The prime minister Meta, however, does not share this view, having appointed him to the post of Italian undersecretary for foreign affairs, in place of Umberto Ranieri. On the same day, Democratic Party chairman Sali Berisha met with Italian undersecretary for foreign affairs Umberto Ranieri. Judging from the press releases issued, it would appear that Berisha met the senior Italian diplomat, while Meta met the well-known singer Massimo Ranieri. The news was circulated yesterday to all media outlets, and many of the conferences that work with television stations close to Mr. Meta’s government agreed with the change the Albanian prime minister had made to the Italian administration. The news about changes at the Farnesina was broadcast moments after Mr. Meta addressed a Norwegian institute, instead of the Swedish Academy of the Nobel Prize, to propose the city of Kukës as a candidate. Mr. Meta has gained immense power to make changes not only within Albania, but also in Europe and beyond, ever since an extremist former member of the Democratic Party Youth Forum began working as his spokesperson. It is true that in 1996, 80,000 tons of oil were cleared through customs, and in 1999, 178,000 disappeared. But in 1996, 510,000 tons of oil were produced in Albania, whereas in 1999, 225,000 tons of oil were produced in the country—that is, about 250,000 tons less than three years earlier. During 1996, oil consumption in Albania was about 600,000 tons, a figure also borne out by the calculations above, whereas in 1999 oil consumption amounted to 443,000 tons—that is, about 160,000 tons less than in 1996. Today, 508 days since Azem’s murder . The government protects Azem Hajdari’s killers. Every day that passes since the murder of Azem Hajdari, the symbol of democracy and pluralism, proves the involvement of the government of Fatos Nano and his successor in the crime that shook the entire Albanian world. The governments of the former communists, which leave at liberty and unaccounted for the criminals who took the December leader’s life, show Albanians that they have been and remain on the side of the killers, who have names of their own but are not touched by those in power. Democrats and all Albanians who loved and honored Azem Hajdari can in no way tolerate this fact. The government must either apprehend the criminals and bring them to justice, or publicly declare that it itself committed the murder of Azem Hajdari.
