It is the power that is floating the gold with a regular 1944 record By Astrit PATOZI As if the successive scandals that have engulfed the Albanian administration in these years of socialist rule were not enough, a serious environmental issue is now coming to the surface, one that has the potential to shake not only Tirana, but perhaps the whole country. It concerns a frightening chemical dump, located very close to the capital and linked to terrible acts by the communist regime, which for 55 years concealed a shocking and disturbing truth from Albanian public opinion. More precisely, the problem concerns a gigantic pit, 80 meters wide, 22 meters deep and 60 meters long, now filled with piles of earth and stones, located in Arbanë, Tirana. Here, according to official documents, about 180 tons of highly dangerous substances were dumped in 1944; these were used in the production of chemical and biological weapons. Thousands of tons of chemicals have been accumulated in Albania, and unfortunately no one knows the current condition of this frightening collection.
