The opposition press facing modern inquisition

By Astrit PATOZI Almost five years ago, in the newspaper of the Socialist Party “Zëri i Popullit,” Pëllumb Xhufi, at the time deputy state secretary in charge of culture and former political prisoners, wrote about media ethics with shocking ferocity. In that article, he had described the opposition press, since its creation, as something that, on its own and with all its weight, should first denounce inequality on the front pages, and the trials of the villages would wipe out the opposing views with hatred. He accused this entire press of having fabricated and appropriated publishers, among other things, as their “cloners,” specifically citing the newspaper which, with its name, the eye of a player in Tirana, had contaminated it with terms such as “destructive,” “lip horse,” etc. This was the logic of people who found it impossible to reproduce what they considered a tool of the times, through financial support. After this came also the scene of his state. Just as much as the clichés, clear positions were visible, especially from its mentality, which demonstrated the dignity of persecuted ideas.
