Former minister Dritan Prifti has received several death threats against his life through phone calls and messages. The threats came after the publication of the latest video, and he has requested protection from the General Prosecutor’s Office
■■■ TIRANA ARBEN RROZHANI Former minister Dritan Prifti has again been threatened with death through phone calls and messages on his mobile number. The repeated incident happened a few days ago and once again the MP, within a year, has turned to the General Prosecutor’s Office, asking for physical protection for his life. In a statement via mobile phone for “Shqiptarja.com” and later distributed to the press, Prifti says: “I am very sorry for a false and abusive article in Rilindja Demokratike today(yesterday). This newspaper has slandered and lied about everything it has written, from beginning to end. I wrote to the General Prosecutor a highly secret letter about some personal concerns regarding my safety, which I asked to be investigated. I have received phone calls and text messages with death sentences and I am very worried.” But unlike the real concern for his physical safety, the newspaper “Rilindja Demokratike”, the official organ of the PD, published an article yesterday, claiming that Dritan Prifti had sent a letter some time ago to chief prosecutor Ina Rama, whom, according to RD, Prifti had paid millions of lek. The article said that the letter proves Prifti’s cooperation with the PS... continues on page 5

The two realities of my Albania
Editorial
BY ANILA BASHA The two realities of my Albania Yesterday, on January 21, I saw two Albanians. Sad. I followed live from the “Vaçe Zela” Theater in Lushnje the choir of the Opera and Ballet Theater, brought specially from Tirana to perform for the 92nd anniversary of the opening of the proceedings of the Lushnje Congress in my city; of birth; the professional troupe of soloists, artists, conductors and orchestral musicians, the troupe of dancers of this institution, were singing live in front of the prime minister, the speaker of parliament, the minister of culture and many local officials of the city... I went back to the newsroom. I was watching the day’s developments. I came across, via the internet, not live, the funeral music that was being played in the Black Box hall of the Academy of Arts. They were commemorating the 1st anniversary of the death[s] of the four protesters on the “Dëshmorët e Kombit” boulevard. Then I returned to the prime minister’s speech, like a historian. He spoke in the “Vaçe Zela” theater about the merits of the Lushnje Congress and the government of Sulejman Delvina. He spoke about the contribution of every patriotic delegate in that congress; he highlighted the values of that glorious meeting, which according to him, together with the League of Prizren and the declaration of Independence in Vlora, in the prime minister’s view, were the three great historical events that laid the foundations of the Albanian democratic state. — What the two Albanians I saw yesterday had in common: coldness. Very cold in the “Vaçe Zela” theater hall; even colder in the Black Box hall of the Academy of Arts. I went back down to the footage in Tirana: I painfully followed Edi Rama’s speech, painfully to the core, in a Migjenian style conveying the suffering of the four families that had lost their loved ones; a chilling speech to... continues on page 2
