The name of the suspect is not being disclosed by the investigative team, but sources add that during this time they have “targeted” a person for whom there is strong suspicion that he is the executioner of 35-year-old Eleni Basho. Editorial BY Afrim Krasniqi The threatening power of evil Albania spent 46 years under a totalitarian regime. The Albanian model was unique in its harshness, extreme nature, pyramidal state organization, collective class persecution, and the state and public mechanism of violence. At the top of the pyramid was the dictator, next to him the Political Bureau, then the loyal structures of the PLA and, in parallel, the structures of violence, symbolized by the State Security. With the fall of the communist system, its state pyramid also fell, the PLA and the security apparatus disintegrated, and over the years the communists themselves began a public competition of dissident memories and distancing from the former system. Those who by conviction or compulsion caused victims, in democracy took on the role of victim; those who built careers by filling prisons or internment camps with innocent people in the new system rushed to take political and party positions, to dominate business and public debate, to rewrite history and at any cost create a new identity for themselves and their lives. Nowhere in Eastern Europe is there such admiration and positive reminiscence about the dictatorship written and published Albania in 2012 has changed a lot from 1990: there are many new buildings, many businesses, many roads and cars, a lot of noise and freedom, but in terms of moral identity and the past, it is still only at the beginning.
