In the divorce petition against her, the former husband accused her of having forgotten the family, devoting herself to her work as a dentist and coming home very late. Yllka Shehaj was very late at work, staying long hours in the clinic, devoting herself to her profession as a dentist. At least that is what the accusation made by her former husband says, in the divorce filed in December 2010, three years after they had married. Europe, Greece, the crisis and us BY EUGJEN MERLIKA More than two thousand years ago, the shores of the northern and eastern Mediterranean were the center of civilization. From Athens and Rome, the rays of knowledge and culture spread. If Rome then ruled over a continent that, within its borders, consumed the so-called “barbarian tribes”, Athens, militarily occupied, ruled with its art, philosophy and science that known part of the world that would become future Europe. Perhaps such thoughts come to mind to anyone who, following the events of today, casts a glance into the distant past, trying to find a connection, an invisible thread, that runs through the centuries, the events, the history of peoples, generations, societies, states. Today Europe faces one of its most difficult challenges, the one that the beginning of the third millennium AD places before a world that, having absorbed the knowledge, science, technology, art, culture, social and political experiences of its societies, is measuring itself against it in the field of economics. Europe, which gave the world the most diverse ancient and modern economic theories and doctrines, finds itself in a turmoil that, for the first time in its thousand-year history, must be faced united. Its dream of unity, nurtured in the cradles of the brilliant minds of past generations, embodied on the ruins of the fiercest war in all its history, completed with the rejection of dictatorial systems, now clashes with a dramatic reality called “economic crisis”, taking this name precisely from the Greek language...
