To strike with Top

Editorial BY ARBEN RROZHANI To strike with Top The President of the Republic finally spoke. By accepting congratulations. Because until today he had not spoken. Even when he needed to say something, he said: “I speak with decrees,” “I speak with my silence.” Yesterday he struck with Top. Like never before. Straight to the heart of Evil, the still unsolved problem of Albanian society 22 years after the December ’90 movement. He spoke of communists who for more than two decades have been sold as democrats, former-Sigurimi spies who have seized power at all levels, while keeping up the pretense of being defenders of democracy and of the persecuted strata. The head of state’s words were welcome, because they put a finger on the wound that is still bleeding and festering: the country’s break with the past and the communist figures who ruled the country by force and terror for 45 years and continued to do so under anti-communist suits in the following decade. Because Albania, unfortunately, even though it was the country with the bloodiest regime in the former Communist East, is among the few that still has not opened the files of the collaborators of the State Security, that has not removed from public office and decision-making the persecutors and their children. But words are not enough. They only stir Albanians even more. If yesterday the president struck with TOP by pointing his finger at Evil, his mission, if he truly has one, is to dismantle this Evil that hangs over us. By launching a genuine political campaign that would serve to dismantle this immoral political caste, which after 22 years of pluralism still thinks and acts as if under monism.
