Editorial BY ARBEN RROZHANI Diploma tourism in Albania Renzo Bossi is the Italian illustration of the Albanian phrase of recent years: “Now that I have got a higher education, I am also doing secondary school.” Because, if the official version of the “Kristal” university is to be believed, according to which Bossi began his studies in the academic year 2007-2008, why did he finish secondary school in 2009?! It is the example of how a piece of paper is handed out, in exchange for payment, so that one can be dressed up as a graduate, of how you can go to school and never, at any point, actually be a student. How does an Italian see what has been happening in Albania, in these last five or three years? A blogger says so in the two-days-ago issue of “La Repubblica”, when speaking about Bossi’s “brain-damaged” son: “A month ago I was in Tirana... I went into an economics faculty where there were practically no traces of students. No lecture was being held. As compensation there was the building itself, in the halls of fame of the American academy, where there were no missing figures of Nobel Prize winners in economics.” After taking aim at Albanians, the blogger also brings up the case of his Italian compatriot, professor Salvatore Messina, convicted in Italy for abuses involving European Union funds, because he organized, according to the judges, phantom courses to obtain community funding worth more than 6 million euros, and who has now opened the European University of Tourism in Tirana, based near the Train Station. For Italians, Bossi-type diplomas are a form of specialized tourism.
