Commentary BY ENTON ABILEKAJ This is how Arvizu spoke Thousands of comments flooded websites and blogs after the American ambassador’s interview on the show Zone e Lirë. It was easy to understand how the interview had been received from the commenters’ positions, mostly anonymous and party-based. “An elected president with 71 votes would be accepted, but it would be called a lost opportunity,” Arvizu said. The first part of the sentence did not trouble the opposition, the second part troubled those in power. The assessment of Nano’s candidacy drew negative comments, even from Rama’s supporters and from Berisha’s. The latter were very angry that the ambassador had “changed his position,” after speaking out against a president imposed by the majority and being skeptical about Jozefina Topalli’s candidacy. The cyber war, which dominated Friday night and all of yesterday, confirmed the great divide caused by the political conflict. That divide cannot fail to be reflected in the process of electing the president, which will begin next week. Inside parliament, major movements have begun. Even lone MPs now feel they have the importance of a political party, because of the offers coming at them from all sides. The president is still being discussed and tensions are growing among the parties of the unnatural governing coalition, which apparently is heading toward its end. All actors, parliamentary or not, have been caught up in the mania for being in the spotlight.
