The latter had sounded the alarm as early as May 4 that public transport vehicles were circulating without a braking system and, as a result, several accidents had also occurred.
The hypocrisy of a donation
Comment
BY GENCI KOJDHELI The hypocrisy of a donation This Monday in Albania two events occurred: the first one that should never happen and the second one that should happen every day! On Monday a tragedy occurred that shook the entire nation and caused much pain, sadness, tears and sorrow, but whether because life is never certain, and in the middle there may be the will of God, or the hand of fate, or the facts of probability, no one can be blamed or take responsibility for preventing such disasters in the future! Meanwhile, on that same Monday, at a first level of human solidarity, hundreds of people (including myself) voluntarily answered the call to donate blood for the injured in the Himara accident. Television and radio stations, as well as all social networks on the Internet, were filled with calls to donate blood, since hospital structures did not have enough to handle the emergency. And as a result of civic commitment, sometime on Monday evening, the Ministry of Health announced that there was no need for blood! A miracle, isn’t it?! Personally I am deeply outraged by the hypocrisy and mediocrity of Albanian society when it comes to blood donation. Such displays of community solidarity unfortunately happen far too rarely, and in very cynical terms it must be said that it took 13 lost lives for the blood bank in the country to be filled for the first time! Despite the great need for blood, and the tireless work of organizations such as the Red Cross and the National Blood Transfusion Center, the levels of voluntary donation in Albania are ridiculous and pathetic, especially when you consider that we Albanians pride ourselves on our lofty virtues of helping others... continues on page 10
