Comment BY AFRIM KRASNIQI When reason is lost In politics, reason is a moral value that rarely manages to become part of political identity. Reasoned policies are a feature of functioning democracies, where values matter more than political acts, where political decision-makers consider themselves to be serving the public interest. The opposite happens in non-democratic countries, where the goal remains the main objective and, in order to achieve it, neither moral values, nor reason, nor the relationship with the public and citizen interest matters. Albania is an intermediate case, a country where the constitution and the law set the reasonable limits and norms in the exercise of power and where, at the same time, there is a great difference between declarative politics and realpolitik. In general, the Albanian political scene, created through fictitious mechanisms (lobby groups, personal services, connections with decision-making leaders, regional belonging or dubious financial interests), does not accept the institution of merit, career and oversight; it rejects transparency, confrontation with the public and fair electoral testing.
