Former chairman Emil Lafe resigns, linguists and academics from Albania and Kosovo are excluded The news The meeting of the Inter-Academic Council decided two days ago to change the spelling of the Albanian language. Thursday was the last day on which the decision was taken, while nothing has been made public. From the outset, academics in Albania and Kosovo were excluded or resigned. TIRANE DHURATA HAMZAI A commission from which the best-known Albanian academics have been excluded has taken decisions on drastic changes to Albanian Orthography, while well-known academics and linguists have resigned. Comment BY HAMDI JUPE The “pluralist” theft in Lezhe The Court of First Instance in Lezhe sentenced the seven polling station commissioners from the Dajç Commune of this district to a total of five years in prison. The court found them guilty of falsifying the voting process, because the investigations established that people who were in emigration and had not returned to the village for a long time had also taken part in the vote. The complaint against them was made by the Alliance for the Future candidate, (the opposition) Rrok Rroku, who lost the elections for the head of Dajç commune, against Gjergj Doçi, of the Alliance for the Citizen, (the government). This is good news for those who seek respect for the free vote of citizens, in “free and fair” elections as the world calls them. It is also good news for the Socialist candidate for commune head, who filed the complaint with the justice authorities and stood by this issue until the end. This is the second example in the country when our courts deal with cases of election manipulation and hold accountable those who violate election law. The first case was the conviction of the commissioners of the Ruzhdie commune in Fier. It is good news for public opinion in general... continues on page 6
