Aleksandër Meksi and Dashamir Shehi come close to the figure stated by Fevziu, while Dr. Vasfi Baruti brings original 1946 documents to “Shqiptarja.com” in which the number of martyrs officially declared by law is 1,141.

Commentary BY AFRIM KRASNIQI The shadows and lights of the agreement After 8 months of “negotiations,” the two main parties, PD and PS, have agreed on changes to the Electoral Code. Both sides benefited from the agreement; each believes it has achieved its party objectives and has formally also fulfilled the parliament’s legal obligation. The agreement was welcomed by institutions, by OSCE and other diplomatic and local actors. And so, it seems, as was said in the last parliamentary session, that we are facing a historic event. The champagne glasses have been readied, and next Thursday the deal will be finalized with a formal vote in parliament. “Of all loves, the political one has the shortest life.” Said by Dahrendorf in the mid-1990s, his insight seems entirely suited to Albanian political reality as well. This is the 16th electoral agreement between PD and PS in 21 years, of which only 1 has been implemented, the one from 1992. Back then, a transfer of power was expected, there was a technical government, elections were almost organized by international institutions, citizens massively supported change, and the gap in support between the sides was extremely large.
