The documents of the Bank of Albania sent to Parliament on 31 July 2012 show that hundreds of millions of lek are spent every year by the apparatus of the Bank of Albania with 502 employees on food, sports, trips abroad and fees, not counting the billions of lek that go to the Bank’s everyday luxury, which is supposed to oversee the banking system and guide the economy in crisis.

The negative university ranking
In recent days, the annual global university ranking was published. The data, however debatable in terms of accuracy and differentiation criteria, provide a full picture of the university ranking, the number of universities in each country, and the ratio between public and private universities. The news of interest to the Albanian public and state is not the expected dominance of American universities (as most of the media commented), nor the narrow difference between Albanian-language universities (as the rest commented), but the alarming situation in the Albanian, regional and broader university space of the Albanian university system. Considered one of the government’s most successful reforms, the liberalization and massification of higher education has produced what we all feared: a defective, failed system, without quality and without competitive capacity within itself or in relation to regional and global markets.
The figures speak for themselves. The ranking of Albanian universities starts at position 7299 and ends at 20634, coming even behind two North Korean universities, a Stalinist country with no distinction between science and propaganda. If the top 10,000 places in the ranking are taken within this limit, Albania has only 3 out of 38...
