Editorial

BY ARBEN RROZHANI A bad beginning The Parliament of Albania began the new parliamentary session yesterday in the most unworthy way and with the most mocking continuation imaginable. Instead of opening the curtain on a new political season, at least for the two major political forces PD and PS, yesterday’s plenary session delivered an extension of the previous sessions. Warlike rhetoric, mutual accusations, personal attacks and political threats were part of the speeches delivered by the Speaker of Parliament, Topalli, and the parliamentary group leaders of PD and PS, respectively, Patozi and Ruçi. In a hall where the country’s prime minister was absent, as he was taking two days of meetings at the Slovenian resort of Bled, and where most of the cabinet ministers did not bother to come, not a single word was said about the economic crisis in the country, shocking crime and tragic accidents, or the fires that have reduced the country’s forests to ashes. And, as if to close the short first day after the long summer holidays and set off again with more holidays, the ridiculous Parliament voted with right-wing and left-wing votes on the normative act on “noise pollution.” There were 112 mixed votes that turn your stomach, when one votes to make a law that the government launched as a battle with “windmills” and that it is now voting on, with the tourist season already over together with the noise that deafened young and old throughout these three months of the tourist season. The Socialist opposition became party to this masquerade, acting like the government as if blind and deaf, not seeing and not hearing the disturbing news of today and tomorrow, because beyond noise pollution or the anti-smoking law, the country and Albanians need bread, work and order. This was the bad beginning, leaving very little hope for what follows.
