BY ENTON ABILEKAJ Waiting for the guarantor The Albpetrol tender has caused general confusion. The government euphoria of the first moments has faded because of the prime minister’s silence, while the opposition has made no comment on the offers opened on Friday, September 7. That was the day when Vetro SilkRoad Enquiry, a company registered in Chicago, submitted the huge 850 million euro bid. That is enough money to pull the economy out of its liquidity crisis and revive all sectors suffering from the crisis. It could help reduce the public debt that has reached a critical point and could pave the way for necessary and electoral investments. The arrival of the company from the United States could significantly affect the strengthening of relations and the further alignment of Albania’s interests with the world’s greatest power. But the prime minister does not seem happy. He has still not reacted, perhaps because of the doubts that have accompanied the tender process and especially the submitted company, which is surrounded by mystery. But perhaps Berisha has realized that the tender risks failing, so he is not rushing to announce a “bingo.” The risk of failure first of all... continues on page 10
