Commentary BY SHPËTIM GJIKA* Vlora and the centenary celebration I am here to communicate with the entire public opinion, not only the city of Vlora but all of Albania, regarding the obstacles and ongoing sabotage that the government of Prime Minister Sali Berisha is doing to the dignified celebration of the 100th anniversary of Independence. With less than two months to go before the day of celebrating this very important anniversary, I must sadly say that Vlora seems to have been completely excluded from the government’s agenda, that there is a lack of any kind of communication and interaction, that there is no project, however small, that could include the city in these celebrations by the government in Tirana. On the contrary, in a shameful and inexplicable way, Sali Berisha has not only failed to grant any financial aid, any assistance, any sign, but has also cut the annual funding that the Municipality of Vlora has received over the years from the state budget. No proper planning for this important event has yet been communicated and it seems as if Vlora is being pushed aside for political effect.
