Comment BY PREÇ ZOGAJ Within the circle of cowardice and absurdity They fired live rounds knowing they were firing live rounds; they fired toward the crowd knowing they were firing toward the crowd; they left four peaceful opposition demonstrators dead and injured several others... But... but listen, people! — they did not intend to kill. This is the first conclusion that emerges from the reasoning in the Tirana trial court’s decision, which declared innocent the defendants accused of the 21 January killings, the former commander of the Guard, Andrea Prendi, and the former officer of the firing group, Llupo. In the face of undeniable facts, the Court is forced to admit that the weapon of the first killed Faik Myrtaj and the weapon of the second killed Ziver Veizi. But, but listen, people! — it has not been proven that they personally knew their victims, and this is another circumstance that goes in favor of the innocence of the killers. This is the second conclusion that emerges from the reasoning of the Tirana trial court’s decision. In other words... continued on page 20
