In years of long political battles, sometimes dangerous ones too, he has never abandoned it. Sali Berisha, Albania’s longest-serving prime minister, in 23 years of democracy, seeks to set a record. And not just one. A third consecutive mandate, victory twice over different leaders of the largest opposition party, his name to be closely linked with Albania’s move toward the European Union.
