Comment BY ERION KRISTO If the President of the Republic were to speak It would be very different if the President of the Republic ever spoke to his own citizens as well. But that is unlikely to happen. Our president has a flaw. He does not speak. He has no agenda. And we are talking about a civic agenda, because whenever politics has some need, he switches on like a spring. It would be different, because the civic citizens of this country would find a partner in the Head of State to discuss society’s problems, rather than listening to stale essays. For all those who have memory problems, on March 20 a powerful group from civil society protested in front of the doors of the Presidency, asking the Chairman of the Security Committee to take measures to prevent the crime of pedophilia and the abuse of minors. Around 300 people, and people of weight, signed the petition addressed to Mr. Nishani, but this same petition, which was officially handed to the institution, disappeared without a trace. And from that day until now, cases of pedophilia have been countless. Let us recall some of them just to refresh dulled senses: two cases in Tirana, a 67-year-old pensioner and another 58-year-old were arrested for attempting to have sexual relations with minors; a judge in Ndroq carried out disgusting acts with a minor; a student kidnapped an 8-year-old child for trafficking purposes; a 53-year-old from Korça wrote a love letter to a 13-year-old girl; a 32-year-old person sexually assaults a 12-year-old girl in broad daylight in the middle of Durrës; a 49-year-old person sexually harasses a 12-year-old girl; an Albanian pedophile sentenced to 20 years in prison is extradited from Italy; a 20-year-old pedophile is arrested... continued on page 21
