Editorial BY ANILA BASHA You can never speak or write about a New Beginning with an old tune. It is such a simple axiom that those several thousand democrats who went to the polling stations to cast their vote for one of the candidates should feel disappointed. Yesterday’s elections under “one member one vote” and the structures of the Democratic Party clearly and very well showed that the party which in 1996 raised the standard of vote theft to a standard of anti-values for the PD and for the country, cannot organize elections that remain in the mind of every honest democrat who seeks to express his will for the preferred candidate. The problems identified yesterday during the voting process showed that after eight years in power, the PD has become a state party, where the structures had for years lost their functions and no one had a database with the exact number of party members, or those who pay its monthly dues. The old members, founders of this party, democrats from the very first days, rushed from one center to another in Tirana, and from one city to another, to find their name on the voters’ list and to express their will.
