Profit, the basis of organized crime

Commentary BY Ilir Dhima Profit, the basis of organized crime It has now been proven, as everywhere else, and also in Albania, that most criminal behavior is generally directed toward economic-financial gain. Of course, excluding those unlawful behaviors that are based on personality problems of the author(s), or on non-rational emotional reasons. But, above all, the criminal would also be sensitive to gain, as well as to the costs and consequences of his behavior. And this often leads him, increasingly, to act in cooperation with others, dividing tasks, crossing barrier boundaries, hiding traces, facilitating the commission of the crime and increasing benefits, etc. In this respect, organized crime has long been gaining significant ground in Albania as well, which has been noted in many official reports inside and outside the country, in several resolutions of international bodies and analyses by experts in the field. ► continued on page 13
