BY CARLO BOLLINO The time has come for the decriminalization of the media as well The young colleagues at competing television stations have invented a new phenomenon: “selective scoop.” A “scoop” in journalistic terminology is a story that one media outlet has reported before the others. Selective because, when Eta does it, it means they have capable journalists. But if we do it, it is because politics handed it to us. Yesterday the television station A1Report published images, ahead of other media, of the operation carried out by the police of Fushë-Krujë against a gang trafficking explosives. Credit goes to our newsroom, which managed to find the footage before its competitors, a race that takes place every day in newsrooms around the world. In all times, a journalist aims to have footage before others, but professional rules among Albanian newspapers apparently do not apply, and so three scoop-jealous TV stations (News24, ABC and Ora News) launched a surprising political attack against the Ministry of the Interior, accusing it of “selective information.” A ridiculous and unprecedented attack in the world of information. There is not much to add here. At this point we can only ask one question: if the police “supplied” the footage to A1Report, who gave ABC the complete police document the day before yesterday, through which deputy Mark Frroku is accused of hiding a drug trafficker in his car? Who gave News24 the footage of the man who attacked Sajmir Tahiri’s father leaving by bicycle? But also: with what money did Armand Shkullaku buy his millionaire super-villa? How was the operation to buy News24 financed (and by whom)? How did ABC and Ora News themselves come into being? How many tens of thousands of euros in public money does Ylli Rakipi receive every month similarly?
