Let Us Respond in Thought and Organization to the Growing Demands of Youth
The close and vital link between Tirana and youth is evident at every moment. It is especially striking during the year-end holidays, when the city buzzes with boys and girls, pupils and students, also arriving from various districts. Such is the case as well on the grounds of the University of Tirana, with students and lecturers who have not interrupted the teaching process. In the premises of the Faculty of Economics, the conversation just begun with the secretary of the Party Committee of this faculty, comrade Krenar Kola, is quite interesting. He says that young specialists and lecturers account for about 22 percent of the total number of lecturers and scientific workers. This shows the special attention paid to the young cadres and the climate of confidence toward them. This presence of youth is also felt in its initiatives and creative energy. According to comrade Krenar Kola, despite the achievements, more work still needs to be done to better understand the demands of university youth and to respond more quickly and effectively to their problems, both in the field of study and in social and cultural life. He stresses that the Party and youth organizations have the duty to listen carefully to the voice of the young, to encourage debate and creative thinking, and to fight manifestations of bureaucratism and formalism, which hinder communication and the proper solution of problems. At the University of Tirana, work has been done to improve living conditions in the dormitories, to enrich artistic and sporting life, and to strengthen ideological and political education. Nevertheless, demands remain for higher teaching quality, better provision of literature and material resources, the expansion of leisure activities, and a greater role for young people in directing processes. Young people want responsibility, trust, and room to express themselves. Their demands should not be seen as a concern, but as an indicator of the vitality of our socialist society. Responding in thought and organization to these demands is a condition for strengthening the Party’s ties with youth and for the further development of the country.
