Some enterprises, which had deficits last year, are setting a particularly good example. A- The pace is also good at URT, but we especially want to single out UEM, which had problems last year but has made a good start to this year. Leading the way are the workers of the construction and communications system. Thus, the workers of the construction system and the communist tor Met Sulejmani, who put into production the 40 mm-long filter, which until now had been technological waste. By making an adjustment to the cigarette-production machine, this waste is now being used, yielding 200 thousand lekë a year. So far, the collective of the chrome mine in Përrenjas has produced 800 tons of chrome above the target, and by the end of the month it is striving to produce another 200 tons. The vessels «Met Felaçi», «Niko Gjiri» and others stand out. The pace is also good at the U.R.I «Ritmet», but we particularly want to single out the UEM, which increased production last year and has made a good start this year. Workers in the construction and communications sectors are at the forefront. Thus, workers in the construction sector fulfilled the assignments for this period in total construction and installation volume to 100.7 per cent, and within the district to 100.8 per cent. The «Telat Noga» cigarette factory collective is also setting a good example. They delivered around 400 thousand lekë worth of production above the plan and fulfilled the export target. During the first quarter of this year, two new cigarette brands for export will also be produced here. The work of the nova- The larger than last year’s, is making good progress. Targets have been met here in the production of shirts, corduroy trousers, jackets, etc. Around 1,500 jackets in 10 styles for different age groups were supplied to the Durrës market and other districts. A total of 35,000 jackets will be produced for the domestic market. Other enterprises are also at the forefront during this period, such as the land-reclamation enterprise, the agricultural machinery plant, the mbukut plant, and the shipyard. IT IS WORTH PAUSING OVER THIS EXPERIENCE What would be a brief introduction, a short acquaintance with the «Çlirimi» Agricultural Enterprise, Hero of Socialist Labour of Fier? It is the largest among the district’s 29 agricultural enterprises. It provides 10 percent of wheat production and 20 percent of maize production. It also holds the leading position in the production of vegetables for the market and export, has the largest number of cows, and is the city’s main supplier of milk. It cultivates all kinds of industrial crops. Even these facts are enough to appreciate how significant the course of work in this enterprise is. It has also been making a profit for ten years. Last year it ended with a profit of 10 million lekë. Recently, the size of this enterprise has become a subject of discussion. As a result of a division this year, the Libofshë Agricultural Enterprise was also created. The view is that the Sheman sector could also be separated as an independent enterprise. Of course, whatever happens, the “parent” enterprise, besides its rich inventory, gives each one good, comprehensive experience. The way an enterprise plans has a great deal to do with its progress or stagnation, they say here. How can high productivity be expected from the other agricultural enterprises when one [unclear] where and how the work is done. The planned cost of wheat is 120 lekë per quintal, but the actual figure comes to 97 lekë. The average cost of vegetables, compared with the planned figure, is 30 lekë lower per quintal. Care is taken to ensure early production of vegetables. Our cows are of the same breed as those at the agricultural enterprises in Tirana, they say here, but we plan to produce milk at a lower cost. Indeed, even for a task or a product that does not meet the plan, the cost is not exceeded. The current work is extensive and especially valuable. Wheat requires great care. The alfalfa fields have been prepared. Livestock has many needs, even though the feed base has been secured as never before. That is why the daily milk-production target is being exceeded. Measures for planting potatoes have been fully secured, and preparations for planting lulëdhel have been stepped up. Manure is being brought close to the fields that will be planted with maize. Special work is being done to meet export targets, which are higher this year. The annual target for exporting leeks is intended to be met within the first half of February. The measures taken for the other vegetables ensure ... the earliness of their production. And precisely amid this wave of extensive work, effective organization stands out, along with attention to the beneficial use of economic [unclear]. Since the beginning of this month, the Marinzë oil-extraction enterprise has been meeting its plan targets steadily. The foundations for this steady pace were laid through a campaign back in December. The collective of the first sector has stood out in particular; its mobilization, like that of all the oil workers, was heightened by Comrade Ramiz Alia’s speech to the workers of the auto-tractor combine. The steady pace has mainly relied on more scientific exploitation of existing wells. Engineer Ago Haxhidini, sector supervisor, explains that improvements to the technological operating regimes of the wells, care to prevent stoppages, etc., are important measures that ensure the continuity of the pace. The second and third sectors of this enterprise are also steadily meeting their targets. The Patos oil-extraction enterprise has also maintained a steady pace during this month. For anyone visiting the Tirana Botanical Garden for the first time, the surprise is complete. And even if you go from time to time, you will always discover something new: an oasis here, a palm or a pine you had not noticed there, a plot of roses or the greenhouse with its many-coloured flowers in the sunlight. Spread over an area of 14 hectares, amid greenery arranged according to the laws governing the development of the national flora, the hands of gardeners and botanical scientists have fashioned a marvellous bouquet of flowers, trees, shrubs, aquatic and ornamental plants. At the same time, the Botanical Garden is an oasis of pure oxygen in the capital’s atmosphere. As you breathe in the fresh air and filtered air, only feeling refreshed, a sense of tranquillity and joy comes over you, and you cannot help calling it «The Garden of Life». The people who work here, the creators of this beauty, have themselves taken much from this scene. The devoted brigade leader, Halil Berjko, and the gardeners Hamit Brati and Hamide Balla are among the most distinguished cultivators. The head of the Botanical Garden, Liri Dinga, has absorbed something of the poetry of this beautiful natural setting, and it can be heard in her words. The garden’s ecological contribution is growing, and something seemed strange to us when we saw things projecting the road through the middle of this scientific work, this work of art and culture. The urban-planning specialists have thought their work through properly, but let them give just as much thought and passion to the fate of the botanical garden.
