THE FIRST SECRETARY OF THE CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF THE PPSH, COMRADE RAMIZ ALIA, TAKES PART IN THE MEETING OF THE PLENUM OF THE PARTY COMMITTEE OF THE WORKERS' PARTY DISTRICT OF FIER

(Photo: ATSH) Especially valuable was the meeting and discussion with the secretaries of the party committees of the city districts and the secretaries of the basic organizations on issues of the party’s functioning in the conditions of political pluralism and the activity of rival organizations. These concerns were also expressed by the secretary of the Party Committee of District No. 5 of the city of Fier, Comrade Ramadan Mërtiri, and, on the other hand, the secretary of the basic party organization of the glass factory, Comrade Namik Konomi, raised as a concern the need to clarify, define, and properly understand the role of the secretary of the basic party organization and its leadership. There is dissatisfaction regarding the new candidacies and their selection. Also valuable were the opinions of the deputy chairman of the district Executive Committee, Comrade Remzi Alia. He pointed out that, contrary to what is being said, considerable efforts are being made to decentralize the state organs and that there is absolutely no tendency for problems not to be solved at the base. In addition, there are many problems whose solution also depends on the center, problems with the budget, trade, etc. In the continuation, the first secretary of the Central Committee of the PPSH, Comrade Ramiz Alia, emphasized the need for every communist, those in leadership positions, and all party members to make their contribution to increasing the leading role of the party and the government. He said that greater attention must be paid to work with the masses and to convincing the people. Within this framework, he called for more work in the basic party organizations, listening to the voices of communists and workers, their opinions and remarks. This is the most correct and safest path to know the situation well, to understand the problems, and to take the proper measures. The discussions also addressed the need to deepen economic reforms, improve the situation on the market, and increase the responsibility of state organs and cadres. It was noted that a more resolute fight must be waged against bureaucratism, delays, abuses, and every foreign or alien phenomenon. It was stressed that strengthening order and discipline at work, as well as safeguarding socialist property, remain important tasks. At the end of the meeting, Comrade Ramiz Alia dwelt on the need to strengthen the unity of the party, to increase the role of the basic organizations, and to deepen the party’s links with the working masses. He emphasized that only through tireless political and organizational work, in a spirit of realism, responsibility, and confidence in our own forces, can difficulties be overcome and progress made. From the front activist of democracy in the district of Gramsh Notice from the Albanian Telegraphic Agency On this occasion, problems related to the activity of the Democratic Front, the participation of the masses in social and political life, civic education, and mobilization to solve the district’s economic and social problems were also discussed. State employees are obliged to implement laws and decisions correctly, to maintain a proper attitude toward citizens’ requests, and to avoid any display of arbitrariness. Better work must also be done in informing the people, clarifying problems, and strengthening confidence in the organs of power. During the meeting it was expressed that the democratization of the country’s life requires more openness, dialogue, and accountability. At the same time, it was stressed that political pluralism must not lead to weakening public order or damage the general interests of society. The oil workers and other employees of Fier greeted the participation of Comrade Ramiz Alia and expressed their readiness to face the tasks before them.

WIDESPREAD SUPPORT FOR THE DEMOCRATIZATION PROCESS LED BY THE WORKERS' PARTY

From the letter sent to Comrade Ramiz Alia Kokça and with mother, tell the mullah that I got lost, but I am also coming, because I am going with the new man. Under the care of a respected lady, an education worker, her children have grown up with honesty and love for the country. The letters received express support for the course of renewal, for national unity, and for the preservation of peace and order. The writers of the letters value as correct the party’s concern for the people’s troubles and call for faster solutions to housing, food supplies, trade services, transport, and everyday problems. In many of them there is a call not to be deceived by hostile propaganda and to preserve the gains of socialism. Workers, cooperative members, intellectuals, and young people from different towns and villages express their confidence in Comrade Ramiz Alia and the Party of Labour of Albania. They stress that in the face of difficulties there must be more work, discipline, patience, and unity. In a number of letters it is pointed out that democratizing processes must be accompanied by strengthening the rule of law, respect for public order, and an increase in civic responsibility. The authors ask that the voices of ordinary people be heard more and that the organs be closer to the people.
