Report delivered by Political Bureau member and First Secretary of the Party Committee comrade Xhelil Gjoni Dear comrades, Distinguished friends and gentlemen, At 9:00 in the morning on Monday, 10 June, the 10th Congress of the PPSH opened its proceedings at the Palace of Congresses in Tirana. The congress, which is being held under the motto “The 10th Congress of the PPSH — the congress of the party’s ideological, political and organizational renewal,” has brought together delegates elected by secret ballot from the Party membership in the conferences of its organizations. At the inaugural session of the congress, which was opened by the First Secretary of the Party Committee of the Tirana district, comrade Spiro Dede, delegations from foreign parties and political movements, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in our country, as well as other invited guests, also took part. After 40 years of activity by the PPSH, its 10th Congress has also convened. This in itself constitutes an event of special importance for our party, for the Albanian people and for the country. For 2 consecutive days, the delegates of this forum will address the fundamental problems that concern the party, Albanian society and public opinion throughout the country. The congress will focus attention on issues related to the party’s renewal, its role under democratic processes, the drafting of its political strategy and tactics, and the determination of guidelines for future activity. The 10th Congress of the PPSH is convening at a time when the country is experiencing major political, economic and social changes. These changes and the democratic processes that have begun require deep reflection and new answers from the party. (continued on page 2)
