IN THE SPEECH OF HISTORY: A NEW PERSPECTIVE CLOSES, AHEAD OPENS

– Discussion by comrade Ramiz Alia – The 10th Congress of the PPSH continued its work yesterday, Monday. The debates focused on the political direction of the party’s action under conditions of political pluralism. The first to open the debate were comrades K[?]rova Jajan and K[?]re K[?]ngresit[?]. At the end of the morning session, comrade Ramiz Alia took the floor. His speech was met with prolonged applause. At the beginning, he said that he had followed the debate at the Congress with attention and great interest. According to him, the opinions expressed made it clear that in the PPSH a new conception is taking shape regarding pluralism, democracy, economic reform and the socialist future of the country. He stressed that life is teaching us that we must abandon dogmatism, the old ways of thinking and acting. At the center of his speech was the need for the party to renew itself deeply, to become a modern force of the left, capable of leading democratic processes and defending the interests of labor, freedom and national independence. He spoke about the mistakes of the past, political responsibilities and the necessity of a clear break with bureaucratic and authoritarian distortions. According to him, without this turn, people’s trust cannot be regained. Comrade Ramiz Alia pointed out that political pluralism should not be seen as a threat, but as a new reality that requires political culture, tolerance and civilized competition. He also dwelt on the serious economic situation, shortages in the market, production difficulties and the need for quick but well-considered reforms. In this context he defended the idea that socialism in Albania can no longer be the socialism of yesterday, but must be linked to political freedom, the rule of law and a regulated market economy. In conclusion he stressed that a new perspective is opening up for the country if the party and the people know how to act with courage and responsibility. (Continues on page 2)

Here begins a new history

— Opinion from the Congress hall — We have a new enthusiasm[?], but also a great responsibility. We all feel that we are entering another stage. In this forum we are discussing not only the name, the program and the organization of the party, but also the fate of Albanian socialism. The debate is open, honest, at times harsh, but useful. The delegates are asking for a party that is not closed in on itself, but capable of listening to society. This is why in the hall one feels that here a new history begins.

The renewal of the Party is a necessity for the future of the country.
