The Congress Decisions Are Being Implemented at Grassroots Level

Assessment by medistë e Yjetla — ÇASHKU — The committee is leading well, but it must be freed from passivity and laziness. Since the Socialist Party was declared in our village, a sense of vitality has been felt. Things of interest are happening in the life of the organization and the community. This is also thanks to the more active participation of PS members in decision-making, as well as the persistent work being done by the organization’s secretary. Comrades are clearer about the tasks arising in the new conditions. Meetings have been held with residents on land, supply, order and school issues. Nevertheless, there are still signs of waiting for instructions from above and of a lack of initiative. The district party committee should help the grassroots organizations more with explanations, literature and concrete guidance. There are cases when documents do not arrive on time and when responses to problems are delayed. We believe that the decisions of the Congress will bear full fruit only when every organization works with a plan and maintains daily contact with the people.

Meetings with People Are of Noticeable Benefit

— SKRAPAR — In the individual meetings that the secretary of the district Party Committee, Comrade Jovan Bardhi, holds periodically, various economic and social problems are raised, but in general they are resolved, according to the residents of the town of Çorovodë. The latest meetings with residents of the town’s neighborhoods were of this kind as well. Among the issues raised are bread supply, transport, commercial services, matters of order, the environment, health care and employment. These meetings called for more contact with the people and greater responsibility in implementing the assigned tasks. Residents assess that such talks help to better understand the situation and to find concrete solutions.

Neruda’s Great Spirit

— Mbretsa — Qemal was greatly pleased by the arrival of the Italian professor Rosario Villari. He came from a distant country, but he did not come as a stranger. He had come to know Albania through books, through poetry, through friends. The meeting was warm and the conversation ranged widely over literature, culture, the fate of small nations and the responsibility of intellectuals. Neruda’s name was mentioned several times as a symbol of the civic poet, of the person who does not separate himself from the people’s troubles. Latin America was discussed, along with suffering and resistance, and the hope that free speech brings. The Italian professor expressed respect for Albanian culture and appreciated the efforts toward openness and dialogue. The conversation left a good impression on those present and was seen as an encouragement for further cultural ties in the future.
