Free labour as propagated by the DP and its president Tepelenë is a small town and district, but by some indicators it is not doing badly. Minister Shehu has had 4 months of workers on assistance, while the other, younger minister, Kalakulla, has more limited results: only 2,000 rural families have no source of income whatsoever. Homeless people who do not want to build One thousand town families are without homes. Most have been so since the time of monism. But there is nothing Minister Manushi can do about it: they do not want to build for themselves when the ministry is completely free. Why does the countryside build? Over the course of an entire year, 8 communes built one new house together. Let the town learn from the countryside. Destruction and bombing During the period 90–93 (not 40–43), the following damage and destruction occurred: 70 percent of the irrigation system; a considerable portion of the roads leading to villages; 70 of 80 health centres and nursing posts; 55 of the 77 village telephone lines. They decide to remove the names of Skënderbeu and Shote Galica from the district’s secondary schools While in Kosovo the violent Serbian authorities are removing the names of Kosovo heroes from schools and institutions, the DP councillors in Krujë have decided to remove the names of Skënderbeu and Shote Galica from the district’s secondary schools. After successfully completing the campaign to cleanse schools of socialist names, the education directorate of the Krujë district recently launched a new campaign: removing the names of heroes and martyrs from the schools in this district. This campaign received the full support of the DP councillors at the meeting of the district people’s council on 20 July 1993. With 11 votes in favour against 10 votes against, representing 9 Socialist councillors and 1 Social Democratic Party councillor, the martyrs’ names are being removed from the schools in this district once and for all. The Socialist councillors left this meeting outraged because we saw once again the shameful, unrestrained fury of the DP councillors against our heroic struggle and those who gave their lives to liberate Albania. The argument presented to the councillors to justify this absurd action was utterly ridiculous: that it was part of the depoliticisation of the school. But the DP representatives themselves, while trying to support this banal argument, failed to notice that they were exposing themselves; they began expressing their dissatisfaction that figures such as Abaz Kupi and others had not been sufficiently honoured so far. In this way, through this act, the DP councillors signed one of the greatest disgraces not only of Krujë but, for as long as this regime remains in power, of all Albania. Along with the names of the martyrs, they again decided to remove the name of our national Hero, Skënderbeu, from the secondary school in the town of Krujë. This name is being removed even though until today we people of Krujë, and all Albanians, have been and continue to be proud of him. The same action is all the more shameful because on that very day the name of the Kosovo heroine Shote Galica was removed from the secondary school in Fushë Krujë. And this happens in the Krujë district council while the “democratic” government and the DP, together with the president, denounce the removal by the violent Serbian authorities of the names and busts of Kosovo heroes from schools and institutions in Kosovo. Can there be greater hypocrisy than this? (Continued on page 2)

Three or four days ago, the DP leadership held a meeting in the cinema in the town of Përmet. The ministers Buli and Manushi were with them. The hall was packed, but that is of no importance here: the same old story is being repeated. Speaking about the hardships the people face, one participant at the meeting said: “Stop giving us pointless speeches. Where are your promises? For three days we have barely managed to get bread.” And Minister Manushi said: “There’s the stadium—eat grass!” It seems that Manushi, in his daily routine, has been advised to eat herbs and greens, and his mind went straight there. The hall responded with shouts. “Who does this gentleman think he’s talking to like that?” a friend sitting next to me said. “At least Enver Hoxha told us, ‘we will eat grass.’ Poor us, with the ministers we have.” I don’t know where or what Mr Manushi ate after the meeting, but he certainly did not eat grass. They say that Ilir Manushi, a minister for a year and a half, is more suited to mowing grass, and that is why ... grass, green in colour, came to mind. HASAN KËRCYRA.

In essence, these amendments aim to create the legal conditions for the political opponents of the ruling caste to be convicted. Thus, the statute of limitations, introduced in 1990, is removed from the Penal Code. Now no kind of crime is time-barred, regardless of when it was committed. In other words, the guilty will be prosecuted and held criminally responsible even if their crime was committed 50 years ago. However, the DP does things in stages, and it is quite understandable that the effects of this amendment will first fall on the shoulders of people such as Nured Gjonmarkaj and his associates, who massacred men, women and children. MP Vasjaru stated that anyone who breaks the law cannot escape punishment. According to him, religion postpones punishment even beyond death, so the perpetrators of the massacre will be left trembling. While Memia explained the political background to the change in the law, Baleta explained its legal background, drawing his arguments and inspiration from the newspaper “Liria” and political prisoners. The amendment to the Penal Code also aims to give today’s revanchist rulers free rein to persecute their opponents for alleged offences that were not previously provided for by law. In other words, the aim is to give the law retroactive force. This is nonsense, unacceptable under any legal code in the world. B. S.

The propaganda offices of DP deception invented and put into circulation the “achievement” of bringing inflation down to zero. Indeed, our rulers, who have no qualms about filling themselves with empty promises when speaking about the people’s hardship while making sure they themselves are well fed, presented this “achievement” of the ballists’ party statistics to the president of the European Parliament, who visited our country a few days ago, as if it were a great success. What is the truth? According to the Monthly Economic and Financial Bulletin of the Bank of Albania, No. 1-1993, dated 12.07.1993, when the inflation indicators are compared with those of 1992, we find that: In 1992 annual inflation was 32 percent, while in the months of 1993 it reached 129 percent. Meanwhile, the inflation calculated for each month of the current year showed that in May it was 0.3 percent compared with the previous month, while in the next cycle—the Tirana correspondent for the Bank of Albania’s general directorate said on the morning news programme on the 24th—it was expected to rise in July as a result of the increase in the price of wheat. You trumpeted your fabrication loudly, but you forget that even if it were as you say, when you concocted the lie “zero inflation,” this is not an indicator of an increase in people’s well-being; it does not show that our economy has made progress, nor that the internal deficit has reached zero; it says nothing about investment or the country’s inventory, and it is not an indicator that people’s needs are secure. - One year ago, the first pluralist elections for local government were held. Their results proved that the people do not accept dictatorship and a police state, do not accept the adventurist reform of those in power, do not accept revanchism, revenge, mediocrity and the incompetence of the people governing Albania today. - No more than four months had passed since 22 March, when the DP won a majority in the parliamentary elections, before Albanian reality demonstrated its complete failure in record time. - Faced with the risk of losing power, the ballists of the DP blocked and usurped the powers of local government, trampling on the people’s vote and trust and thus undermining the values of democracy. - 26 July brings us a message: for the dream and aspiration of all honest Albanians for genuine democracy and general progress to be realised, it is essential and urgent that the corrupt and incompetent, the ballists and hypocrites, be removed from power through a new political election. Only after that will we set out for Europe.

The SP is growing, the DP is not upset In the report approved at the SP meeting in the Tepelenë district on 22 July, it was said that 83 new members had joined the party during the two months of the election campaign. At the end of the event, it was announced that the organisations had admitted 6 new members that day.
