A CONSOLIDATED POLITICAL FORCE, CAPABLE OF MEETING THE CHALLENGES OF THE TIMES

The Socialist Party on its second anniversary: Two years ago, in the extraordinary circumstances then unfolding in Albania, the Socialist Party was born. Its program, its organization, and the way it functioned became the object of genuine democracy. The main attention was devoted to preserving democratic socialism. The highly concrete alternatives for the country’s economic development, the democratization of society, and the independence and prosperity of the country have secured for the PPSH, then, and the PSSH now, the continued support of the broad membership and electorate. This authority, earned over time and through work, places serious duties and responsibilities on the Socialist Party. The first Congress of the Socialist Party carried out an objective analysis of its two-year activity, its organization, and the role it has played in Albanian political life. This congress also defined the directions of work for the future. Today the Socialist Party of Albania is the main force of the opposition and one of the decisive factors in the country’s political life. Its representatives in Parliament, in local government, and in social organizations have been present in defense of the interests of the people. Its positions on the major problems of the country have been clear and realistic. It has spoken out against political adventurism, against the incitement of conflict, and in favor of dialogue among political forces. The PSSH has shown that it is a modern party, organized on democratic principles, open to new ideas, and capable of representing broad segments of the population. Its strength lies in internal unity, in ties with the base, and in political responsibility. On this second anniversary, the Socialist Party appears as a consolidated force, capable of meeting the challenges of the times and of assuming greater responsibilities for the country’s future. Workers did not strike out of fear[?], they strike out of necessity[?]

The PSSH leadership [?] comments on workers’ attitude toward protests and strikes. According to it, the lack of participation in strikes is not linked to agreement with the situation, but to fear of losing one’s job and to economic difficulties. Its analysis says that workers are under strong social pressure and that unemployment makes them more insecure when taking protest actions. MUSA ULQINA
