A CHAIN OF PEDESTALS IN GRAMSH

Those few members of the PD in Gramsh who are left are themselves wondering how, as if by magic, certain people—logisticians, [unclear: ishati]—go to bed and wake up as directors in town; they get off their horses in the village and wake up, it seems, climbing into a «Benz» on the asphalt. Well, they say, «it seems the PD has plenty more where that came from. It has the power not only to make someone a director, judge, policeman or prosecutor, but to put an entire clan in positions of responsibility.» After suffering for so many years from the madness of some PP leader, who tied the party and cadre office to a list of names, Gramsh is now suffering from the PD’s [unclear: mbërmarr]. I didn’t want to say these things, but this nepotism is suffocating us, the city’s intellectuals. I’ll give a few examples, as far as I know; the city certainly knows more. Vlonët Cëniku, former chairman of the PD, after taking refuge in the guest house (!), and after arranging a job for his wife where she wanted one, she then seized the «Opel» belonging to the PD branch and the gifts that came to her— for securing their own position in the jobs as soon as the party handed them over. Tefik Elezi, whose wife had first been seen with the wife of the architect with experience Enveri Kala, was appointed director of the N.B. Agim Matu, who married Feliku’s niece, was appointed director of agriculture. Figret Matu, Agim’s nephew, was made an inspector of state control; Koqi Mato, Figret’s brother, is taking a legal course in Durrës, etc. Gezim Toçila—the secretary of the District Council; his brother and sister-in-law got jobs in the public order department; he sent his first cousin Ramazan Adriu to a legal course in Durrës. They say he has the lists in his hands and is looking for more of his own blood to place in jobs. Alfred Bici—former PD secretary. He himself— met all the criteria; his wife’s husband was made head of the agriculture directorate, his cousin Ramadan deputy director in the education directorate, etc. Kajtìm Kllogjeri, PD instructor; as soon as the party issued its call, he became director of the water enterprise; he sent his aunt’s son to the supply base, and his cousin Xhevair Elezi became director at the flour-and-bread enterprise. The latter’s cousin in the village, Gani Paja, with a secondary education, was taken on as an accountant at the enterprise, although there are unemployed economists in the city. The links in this chain are forged in the PD offices, with strict criteria that not every intellectual in the city can meet: a blue test, servility and..., malicious tongues also say..., MONEY.

PSSH DELEGATION TAKES PART IN THE ATHENS CONFERENCE “THE BALKANS: RISKS AND PROSPECTS”

At the conclusion of its visit to Athens, the PSSH delegation, headed by Fatos Nano, took part in the conference organized on June 12 and 13 by the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly. The subject of discussion was the role of non-governmental organizations and parliamentarians in civil society in resolving today’s Balkan conflicts. The conference was attended by parliamentarians, leaders of Helsinki citizens’ assemblies, scientific and academic figures, writers and journalists from all the Balkan countries and countries of Europe. Alongside PSSH MPs Namik Dokle and Anastas Angjeli, the MPs Paskal Milo of the PSD and Kosta Makrajadhi of the PDNJ were also present from our country. Speaking at the plenary session and during the discussions, PSSH chairman Fatos Nano stressed that, despite the international community’s plans to stop the bloodshed and ethnic cleansing, the Balkans continue to remain a field of nationalist and religious confrontation. It is therefore the duty of parliamentary and non-governmental bodies to encourage the convergence of ideas and alternatives in the region, correcting the policies of today’s governments in every country, so as to make the Balkans more European and prevent the Balkanization of Europe through the spread of today’s conflicts. In the face of the current situation, characterized in many countries of our peninsula by ethnic conflicts, economic crisis and acute social problems, there is an imperative need to find new ways for the peoples of the Balkans to take their fate into their own hands, live together and fulfill their aspirations for peace, democracy and progress. The role and responsibility of genuine democratic forces in the region is considered to lie in helping stop the escalation of today’s crisis and overcome it. The Socialist Party of Albania, he further emphasized in his speech, is steadfast in its positions in the interests of peace and regional stability. It strongly supports the implementation of the Helsinki principles on not changing borders by force and on equal recognition of international standards of democratic rights for all the peoples of the Balkans. This can be achieved only by promoting understanding, dialogue and peaceful cooperation in the Balkans and Europe, and these are not the only things demanded by Albanian «divisions» of every kind. Albanian socialists are convinced that, on the basis of the Charter of Paris, the CSCE documents and the UN Charter, it is entirely possible to achieve a just and realistic solution to the Albanian question, as an important factor for peace and stability in the region. The European orientation of the Balkan countries and the suitability of integration processes on our continent have been and remain a priority for us, Fatos Nano stressed. Therefore, in cooperation with PASOK and other left-wing and progressive forces in the region and beyond, the Socialist Party of Albania will undertake the necessary initiatives to promote and realize the aims stated above. The monument to the four heroines of Mirdita has been removed!...

- President Berisha and his lackeys clap their hands with delight. - Another stain of shame in the history of two years of the [unclear: përdistes] regime. - President Berisha and his lackeys clap their hands with delight. - Another stain of shame in the history of two years of the [unclear: përdistes] regime. What had long been foretold, what was warned of when the busts of Bardhok Biba, Pal Mëlyshi and Ndrecë Ndue Gjoka were removed, has finally happened. To their shame and disgrace, the [unclear: përdietë] authorities of Mirdita removed from the center of Rreshen the beautiful and imposing monument erected in honor of the lives and deeds of the four heroines, Marta and Prenda Tarazhi, Mrikë Lokja and Shkurte Cara. They removed it because they are going to receive the branded criminal Ndue Pjetër Gjomarkaj!... They removed it because they are going to welcome fascism and its descendants. They removed it because they do not want the honor and glory for which the Mirdita brides gave their lives, massacred by the bullets and knives of criminals. But history is history, and Mirdita is Mirdita. Neither history nor Mirdita was made by the Gjomarkajs and other criminals and diversionists, but by the people of Mirdita themselves. You too, Sali Berisha, should keep this firmly in mind—you who shook the hand of the criminal Ndue Gjomarkaj and opened your door to him, known as a UDB agent educated in Belgrade, a former member of the BKI espionage center headed by Ismail Shefqet Verlaci, and commander of the gang that killed Bardhok Biba. And keep this firmly in mind, because the criminal you sheltered in Mehmet Shehu’s former villa will one fine day speak to you too as the butcher-criminal did to the ex-communist Sali. You speak eloquently about martyrs, but show honor to criminals. But if you are accomplices of the communists who abused their power during monism, do not become accomplices of criminals during pluralism. The four brides of Mirdita, who stained the earth red with their blood, accuse you today, because Ndue Pjetër Gjomarkaj and his criminal ilk, together with Pjetër Mustakuqin, have already killed them once. Today you are killing them again; therefore, in your capacity as President of the Republic, intervene so that their immortal names and deeds are not tarnished. Otherwise, may their bodies cover you too, along with the others. KRESNIK MARTINI notorious going to receive not want the justice and freedom for which the Mirdita brides gave their lives. Corruption in the ALBPETROL oil corporation?

- An invitation to Mr. Blerim Çela to send the State Audit Office to investigate - According to an inside source (an important employee at ALBPETROL), we learn that abuses in this powerful corporation, one of the largest in the country, are not minor. The source of the abuse, some of which is said to have ended up in the PD’s finances, is an agreement concluded with a computer company based in Prishtina. The computers obtained in Prishtina were acquired and distributed to various enterprises under this corporation, where price differences were manipulated. This happened at a time when employees went on strike demanding wage increases to cope with the difficult economic situation into which the current government has led the country. Let our democratic State Audit Office and Mr. Blerim Çela turn their attention to this corporation to shed light (this will be done one day) on this case and on others about which there is no shortage of whispers. The workers in the oil sector must be given answers to all these suspicions. They are waiting to learn what has been done and what will be done. N. K. Notice to the Center

FROM THE INFORMATION OFFICE OF THE PD BRANCH I take the liberty of informing you of something I do not wish for at all. On Thursday, which is also the brides’ day, on June 10, the PS of Gjirokastër accepted three young people from the working-class Plakë neighborhood; they took their documents for themselves and said: “In two or three days another 15 of our friends will come too.” That same day, in the “18 Shtatori” neighborhood, a senior agronomist was accepted as a member of the PS. As if the village had also arranged it verbally, there were two admissions in Labovë e Vogël of Odrie, one in Palokastër and one in Karjan; also on the same day, the latter was chosen as organization chairman. I take the liberty of warning you that the drift toward the left is growing, PS membership is increasing, and I fear that the people are going over there. May my hand wither for writing this, but I do it because I love the PD as much as myself. The Informant

An American citizen enters the Albanian Ministry of Defense as if entering his own home

“The soldiers guarding the Ministry of Defense allowed an American to enter the ministry to meet the chief of the general staff of the Albanian army, Lieutenant General Ilia Vasho, without asking him for documents verifying his identity. The general, boasting, showed him the many emblems and medals, gifts from officers of American and European commands who had visited him before. THE POLITICAL ACCUSATIONS OF BLERIM ÇELA ARE LOSING THEIR COLOR

Recently, through official Italian sources, the Socialist Party has come into possession of authentic documents from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that shed light on the truth behind Blerim Çela’s pseudo-accusations concerning the so-called corruption involving Italian aid. The document was issued by the «DIREZIONE GENERALE PER LA COOPERAZIONE ALLO SVILUPPO» and bears the following title: «DELIBERA DELL'ON. MINISTRO N. THE REMOVAL OF TELE-PHONES HAS BEGUN IN BERAT!

By means of an official letter sent [unclear: ashtu teniz], the PT directorate disconnected the phones of 50 subscribers. Although the letter may justify the disconnection of the phones, the truth is that it was initiated by the PD. Phones are being taken away from veterans, former military personnel, civil servants, former... The democratic government and the PD, instead of opening up new avenues in relations between the state and the individual, are continually narrowing them by putting party allegiance first. The PD’s promises that every family would have a telephone, even in the villages, quickly fell apart—and in the towns too. The Observer
