(Interview with one of the ...) Question: The crisis that has erupted recently in parliament became even clearer when Deputy Speaker Pëllumbi was removed from presiding over the session. Do you think this came at Sali Berisha’s request? Answer: I do not have any specific information to either accept or deny any role of his. Nevertheless, I think that from the beginning of the elections and almost throughout this whole year, the assembly has been turned into an office of the ruling party. That means it has been continually under the direct watch and influence of President Berisha, then continued by members of his government and of the senior state administration. This is due to the simple fact that President Berisha has not been able to gather around himself the reformist wing of the PD and lead it without outside imposition. As happened in the dictatorship, he has often brought into the assembly, as commandants and inspectors, ministers and other officials of the executive. (continued on page 4)
