ENTHUSIASTIC RALLIES OF THE SOCIALIST PARTY Berat: EVERYONE SAYS NO TO BERISHA’S DRAFT CONSTITUTION - Servel Pëllumbi: We embrace those voters who want a Constitution. We have supported it and still do, but we support a Constitution for all the people, not a code for the Democratic Party. The cinema in the city of Berat was much too small for the enthusiasm of Socialist Party members and supporters. But it managed to send its message outside. The people of Berat will say no to Berisha’s draft constitution, just as all the Albanian people will. A long line of cars had come out to welcome the Socialist Party vice-chairman, Dr. Servet Pëllumbi, and comrades Gramoz Ruci and Ilir Meta. Poliçan: - If we had been outside, there would have been ten times as many of us. - An enthusiasm anyone would envy was on display the day before yesterday afternoon in the cinema of the city of Poliçan. An enthusiasm that spilled beyond the boundaries of that hall, embracing the whole city and its residents. Hundreds and thousands of young people, women, men and veterans had been waiting for some time for the Socialist Party vice-chairman, Dr. Servet Pëllumbi, and the Socialist Party secretary general, Gramoz Ruci. Their presence alone was enough for chants to burst from thousands of mouths in unison: “Socialist Party—Free Fatos Nano,” “No to the Constitution,” and so on, marking the beginning of the meeting. The presidium where the guests had climbed up lost its name, as it was surrounded on all sides by Socialist Party members and supporters. “We say No to this draft constitution,” said Socialist Party chairman Pëllumb Kondi as he opened the meeting, because [text unclear] the party and association share this opinion and this common decision; therefore we too must join our voices and our answer, “No,” with theirs. Is it really to approve the Constitution? The answer is clear. Every Albanian agrees that the country should be given a constitution. What is new in this information is the fact that this so-called Constitution, in its latest version, comes from Shkodër, from the heart of the Democrats. Report from yesterday’s Berisha rally The flowers, the slogans, the chants—all of them had been brought in. They are the same faces that follow the president to every rally. He himself knows that Albanians will say NO to his project. The gloss is coming off the television spectacles. Announced several days earlier, on the day Mr. Berisha suddenly appeared from the sky in Cërrnikë, the next stop on the presidential tour was Pezë. Berisha had finally broken his silence in order to approach Tirana, which was indifferent to his tour, after it had ended the previous day in Tropojë. Yesterday’s parade was a day off for ATE, but also for the whole country, and caused considerable bewilderment and nervousness about where Berisha was and who was shouting “YES” in the canyon. Brought in for this “currency,” the “rally group” (a television viewer can easily identify it on screen); those who ... ... (part of the text is illegible) ... While we were on a break, the rally turned into a press conference by Mr. Selami, where we learned that Mr. Berisha would be asking for “bosën” in Pezë at 15:30. Before that time, Volshi Dhamo, the journalist who is obliged to follow the television news, could not believe the “miracles” that would happen in Pezë. At around 14:50, at the “historic avenue that leads to the monument” at the Pezë Heroes’ Memorial, dozens of cars with official and private license plates were lined up. Inside and outside them were people whom Mr. Berisha knows very well, because they are not from Pezë. Alongside the pupils of the four-grade primary school and the eight-grade school, ... There are another four classes there; thanks to the visual access TVSH gave us on the day of Mr. Pëllumbi’s meeting in Vorë, I recognized two of the “democratic people of Vorë” who were indignant when Mr. Pëllumbi attacked Berisha and Kavan Pëllumbi.
