Zef Brozi publicly calls for Minister Frasheri to resign

After the minister's order to dismiss three Cassation Court employees , Zef Brozi publicly calls for Minister Frasheri's resignation. The President of the Cassation Court declares to "Zeri i Popullit": “I cannot become an accomplice in violating the constitution and the law together with Minister Frashëri, whom I publicly ask to resign.” The minister's order will remain just as the president's decree on declaring politicians' assets has remained. So it will be covered by a layer of forgetfulness. These three employees will continue to work at the Cassation Court. This latest event makes visible the political attack being carried out against the Cassation Court; for the first time it is also being extended to the administrative employees of this court. Page 3

We single out: The nameless mafiosi

During these years of PD rule, the press has increasingly often spoken about the involvement of the Mafia in various actions in post-communist Albania. This has also been influenced by the accelerated transition, the extraordinary openness our country experienced, the lack of legislation, and the failure of the relevant bodies to enforce the laws. In this case, we are referring to all those hidden and illegal actions affecting Albania, such as complicated international trafficking in drugs, weapons, and even people, overcoming customs and border obstacles for the movement of goods, and other fields, such as facilities for investments where dirty money is laundered, etc. The Mafia has not only one address — Italy — but all neighboring countries, and even more distant areas. It is worth noting that the President of the Republic himself, Mr. Sali Berisha, has publicly mentioned the Mafia at least on two occasions, once in Vlora and then in the last press conference he gave. The last time he said: “The truth is that there has been (not) left for the government of Mr. Meksi it has denounced many illegal actions by citizens of the Albanian coast of others' mafia...” After these statements by the President, public opinion wants to know, not out of curiosity but for the transparency that should characterize every public official: what are these denunciations, about which accusations until today I do not know anything precise, when and by whom were these accusations made, as the head of state is revealing? Moreover: which mafioso have these shores specifically been given to, when even the law on the sale of land we have not had until quite recently. If the President says these words without specifying them, simply as part of political struggle and keeping it alive, this declaration is of no use, but only stimulates fantasy. It is clear that mafiosi have no shame and will never have transparency. But the President must be clearer and more concrete when uncovering a truth, especially when denouncing the alleged involvement of the Mafia in Albania. By trying to attribute to others, to the opposition forces together with the party in power, the so-called mafia practices, nothing else is being done except showing that mafia practices have entered government methods. And an integral part of these practices is manipulation up to the point of blackmailing public opinion. This is how, after one statement, a very serious problem arises. For the first time, the sale of Albanian land, even just one span of it, is denounced, an openly unconstitutional act, but the authors of this act remain hidden. The fight against the Mafia is not done with roosters, with generalizations, nor with daily propaganda.

A question for the rulers: Who "helps" the floods?

The two days, 25 and 26 August '95, saw severe flooding from the numerous and torrential rains. Some districts were hit harder, such as Lezha, Laç, Shkodra, Mati, Kruja, etc. In particular, damage with serious, even tragic, consequences occurred in the districts of Lezha and Kurbin, including the loss of the lives of 5 citizens in the district of Lezha. The economic damage in the district of Lezha caused by the floods amounts to around 300 million lek, while in the district of Kurbin it amounts to 136 million lek. And not only the residents of these two districts, but our entire public opinion has experienced these consequences with pain. These are damages caused by a natural disaster. But not only by that. Our debate: The economic alchemy of the PD

Instead of transparency, we have the fanfare about the definitive solution to the debt. These fanfares remind one only of that “old man with some of the ancient virtues of the Albanians and full of an unknown love for the country, the same instructive closeness that the French call "amour du sol natal", or "patriotisme conscient". By the old man's mind, everything. In Albania, the best of everything was found everywhere; the prettiest girls, the most honest women, the most peaceful bridges, the most beautiful trees, the healthiest climate and an unexpected thing, the most finished things” that Konica so accurately stigmatized. Today: the Albanian national team's challenge National team seeks support

Toward a possible victory today for Bajko's boys, in addition to their play and their desire, encouragement from our sports fans would also help; today, we believe, they will fill the stands of the "Qemal Stafa" national stadium.
