The propaganda of the ruling party, as expected, on the initiative of its own leader and at the same time President of the Republic, Mr. Sali Berisha, has mobilized everyone in its ranks to present his visit to the USA as an extraordinary victory for the PD.
The propaganda of the ruling party, as expected, on the initiative of its own leader and at the same time President of the Republic, Mr. Sali Berisha, has mobilized every one of its people to present his visit to the USA as an extraordinary victory for the PD. Berisha took this same stance at yesterday's press conference. It is clear that neither in Albania nor abroad does anyone believe this. Because it is the victory of democracy itself, and not personal commitments or the coming to power of a political force, even if it is the PD, that are the factors opening the way to close cooperation between small Albania and the world's largest democratic country. President Berisha and the PD act this way because they want to preserve the monopoly of democracy, while in all their practical activity they have a mindset that runs counter to this aspiration. They think the opposition should keep quiet, because the PD and Berisha supposedly know all the matters best. Even the loud tones of opposition to any other outlook, including any opinion from an opposition political force or from any politician who is not from the PD, are expressions of monist practices, of a dictatorial spirit and of efforts to stifle other alternatives. Naturally, these positions do not reflect well on their authors.
This is the reason why, before Berisha had even returned from the USA, the propaganda of the ruling party has tried at all costs to portray the Socialist Party not only as an anti-American force, but as one that naturally opposed this visit. It forgets that the Socialist Party immediately welcomed this visit as soon as it was announced, and did so in the name of Albania's high interests and the strengthening of Albanian-American cooperation, and by no means to curry favor with Berisha or to gain any political advantage from this position.
We see the growing Albanian-American cooperation in all fields as a vital need for the development of democracy and for Albania's progress. In this light, we welcome all positive steps that are taken and serve our national interests, just as we understand that remarks or different opinions we may offer on any issue in service of this major objective also have value. The authors of anti-socialist propaganda, who seek to make us enemies of everything and everyone at all costs, forget that pluralist democracy requires constructive opposition. And only a strong, clear, convincing opposition can play this role — certainly not a servile, mediocre, personalityless one.

Where are you, my classmate,
You bag sewn by mother?!
But I won't stay to lecture you:
"If only you knew what is told to you..."
I will challenge the Free Market
