Mr. Hajdaraga, from 9 to 14 October the 94th session of the World Inter-Parliamentary Union met in Bucharest. You were part of the Albanian delegation. What new developments did this latest meeting bring?
At this session the Council of the Union voted on a Resolution on the "Nano case" which contains very important elements. These elements reflect the latest developments in this case following the Madrid resolution of March 1995. So this is the third Resolution adopted on the "Nano case", starting with Copenhagen in '94 and then Madrid in March. The Bucharest Resolution, in its main points, reflects several important requests of the Inter-Parliamentary Union for a fair solution to this case. Among them I would single out the extraordinary concern that the combination of measures aimed at the continued imprisonment of Mr. Nano has aroused within the Union.
- What does this mean?
For the international official opinion, the measures taken by the state in the months of July-September to prevent the trial of the Nano case in the Court of Appeal and the Court of Cassation, as well as the amendments introduced into the New Code of Criminal Procedure after the dismissal of Brozi, have become known. Thus, in a broader sense! So these are a series of state measures that combine to hinder the fair resolution of this case. This is the first element. Furthermore, the Union expresses concern that the President of the Court of Cassation, who is handling the "Nano case", has been suspended and prevented from continuing the review of the case. The Union states the opinion that such an action is not in keeping with the humane practice that exists and is applied everywhere in the world. This issue has aroused concern everywhere, including within the Union. Thus the matter, and the participating delegations were of the opinion that the latest vote undertaken for
