for the mass removal of intellectuals from the university for political beliefs and condemned for keeping Fatos Nano in prison - the object of the protest. - Mass participation of Euro-socialists and a powerful protest.
Tonight, for the fifth time, in “Skënderbej” Square, at 6:00 p.m., the socialists of Tirana will protest against the removal from the university of hundreds of lecturers and specialists with high qualifications, for entirely political reasons.
As a well-known lecturer said a few days ago, the “cleansing” of Tirana and other regions of specialized cadres is a Maoist-type “cultural revolution.”
The dimensions of this purge have taken on political proportions nationwide. Just a few days ago, around 800 economics specialists, well-known lecturers with academic titles, and many lecturers from other fields were removed from the university by political order from their jobs or under the pretext of unconvincing reforms. All the intellectuals removed by order or under the pretext of reform have strongly expressed solidarity with one another, and their representatives, with the signatures below, have made it clear to the Meksi-Berisha government that the crisis of the PS is entirely their political orientation.
At today's gathering, many socialists and intellectuals expressed their conviction that this anti-scientific and anti-human political wave will continue until it burns out, because there is no law in this country that can stop the violations of the constitutional right to work, freedom and human dignity.
The situation of justice is also seriously affected. Fatos Nano is still in prison, although the final days of the absurd sentence imposed on him have also expired. In this sense, today's protest by socialists and Euro-deputies, which will take place in the evening in the center of Tirana, is also a strong appeal for freedom and human rights.

When my heart runs out, I feel like crying. In the morning I saw sorrowful passersby with bowed heads.
In the morning I saw people sitting in cafés in silence, drinking coffee and thinking. Everywhere I saw grief and tears. Later I learned that this came from the meeting of the Presidency of the Socialist Party about Fatos Nano, which was being held for the first time. I am a calm person, and my calmness is troubled, because I have to care for Fatos's wounds.
I spoke with the taxi driver. “Will you be at the rally today?” He said: “Yes, son, but I am so upset that I have no words.”
When I heard about Fatos, the tears would not stop. Fatos is in prison, but his heart beats with us. He is part of Albania that seeks freedom, dignity and democracy. We will be in the square tonight to protest. No one can take away our right to protest.
Tomorrow, when this long night ends, we will remember that we protested for man, for freedom, for hope.

Who is attacking us? Even the sky above our heads is shaking! So what is the opposition worried about? Where do these black clouds come from? A silent rain is falling over Tirana. A strange wind is blowing over the quiet squares.
On the streets there are thoughtful people. Along the sidewalks there are eyes waiting. On the walls there are banners. In our hearts there are questions.
Will we remain silent? Will we accept? Will we stand firm? No. The voice must be heard. Protest is a right. Freedom is not given, it is won.
Fatos Nano is the name that today makes Albania think. And when Albania thinks, then it cannot sleep.
This is the moment to go out, to speak, not to submit.
