At the seminar with the French foundation “Est Liberté”, a professional campaign manager for the French Republican Party declared that “from the very first day after the elections, the opposition begins preparing for the next elections”. The Socialist Party, despite the pressure and attacks to which it has been and continues to be subjected, is aware of its role as a constructive opposition and of the very significant role the opposition has in a democratic system. For four years now, it has been building all its organizational structures to carry out this spring’s election campaign. Meanwhile, the ruling DP, through its actions and inactions, has completely discredited itself and has been morally disqualified from the right to govern the country in the next legislature. An extremely effective body has existed continuously within the SP and is currently in place; it will be very active during the election campaign and will represent the core of the structures of the future state. More specifically, under the direction of its main forums, the SP has party commissions and activists working to bring intellectual opinion into the process at every level, with the aim of developing the Socialist Alternative. The parliamentary group, whose intellectual and professional level is much higher than that of the DP, has played a very effective role in the political struggle of these four years. On this basis, the group of parliamentary candidates for the next elections is also being assembled. Through new arrangements and by strengthening the professional and intellectual element, it aims to achieve victories and ensure democratic, professional governance. The full plan of action for the election campaign has been laid out, and specialized campaign managers with political experience and an unquestionable reputation are already at its head. Consultative councils of specialists in various fields have been established around them and are functioning. Specialized foreign assistance has also been secured for the conceptual and organizational management of the election campaign. The SP’s election campaign will be one in which: • Rationality will prevail over emotion: the candidates and the entire SP team, being intellectually more capable than their DP counterparts, will defeat all political opponents in debates at every level, including televised debates; • Constructiveness will prevail over deception, manipulation and tension, as pursued by the corrupt DP, which is morally incapable of sitting down and talking with the people; • Seriousness will prevail over diversion, bluff, empty promises, demagoguery and slander, the only anti-intellectual tools left to the DP and its organs “RD” and “Albania” before defeat; • Calm and prudence will triumph over the provocation that the DP seeks to carry out through all branches of its power; • Dynamism will prevail over the anti-democratic and thuggish actions of all those who oppose the law and the rules of the democratic game. • The Socialist slogan is simple and modest: Better with us, because we will conduct a rational, constructive, serious, prudent, honest and dynamic campaign. We are sure we will win. The DP is preparing for opposition. Bersha knows this and is merely trying to postpone defeat. (Continued on page 2)

The chairman of the parliamentary group and deputy chairman of the Socialist Party, Namik Dokle, received the Hungarian ambassador to Albania, Mr Istvan Bognar, at the party’s headquarters. The Hungarian ambassador asked about the Socialist Party’s views and opinions on developments in the country and on the international scene. He noted that relations between Albania and Hungary are very good and received new impetus with the Hungarian president’s visit to Albania a few days ago. In his remarks, Namik Dokle expressed his favorable assessment of developments in Hungary, as well as the Socialist Party’s interest

Yesterday morning, SP parliamentary group chairman Namik Dokle and MP Kastriot Islami met with Mr Jose Maria Mendiluce Pereiro, vice-chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament. After expressing his appreciation for the meeting, MEP Mendiluce Pereiro outlined the objectives of his current visit to Albania. “I am working on a resolution concerning the issue of Kosovo, and I want to learn about your views on this problem and, more broadly, on Albanian policy toward its neighbors. I am also very interested in learning about the political situation in the country on the eve of the elections and the impact the three laws recently adopted will have on the opposition, and particularly on the handling of the ‘Nano Issue’.” The representatives of the Socialist parliamentary group expressed concern about the current situation in Kosovo and the widespread Serbian repression of the Albanian population there.
