Statement by the leadership of the Socialist Party and its parliamentary group The news of an unprecedented act of terror is unbelievable in itself, but not because of the time in which it happened. What makes this moment special is that the event took place in the heart of Tirana, not somewhere on the outskirts, close to the center, in broad daylight and not in the darkness of night. It has once again been born mercilessly, as if the dove of peace, symbolically set in this case by today’s majority itself, came out more wounded by it. That this is the conviction of the prognosis of the parliamentary group and the leadership of the PS is clear from the purpose of the terror, especially at a time when the head of state once promised that peace, wisdom, the cleansing of social and parliamentary life, and the healing of the wounds left by the transition up to today were becoming reality at the expense of political opponents, especially those on the left and the peaceful. PSS[i?] condemns with the utmost severity this act of merciless terror carried out against the life of one of the most authoritative voices of the opposition. However, let it be clear that such an isolated act is neither, nor can it be, the product of opposition forces. The initiating aims of terrorist groups are as well known as they are suggestive. It is known that they strike hardest at the false victors, that the killing of life serves the overthrow of the values of peace, freedom and democracy, to feed anarchy and social destabilization. These current aims are as suitable for the opposition as they are for some dubious terrorist services within the right wing. We consider the event in question with great concern and express our most sincere condolences to the relatives and family members of the injured. Likewise, we urge and call on the justice and order authorities to engage seriously in uncovering what happened and bringing the guilty to account. The intentions of some elements, the speculation and propaganda for political use of this bloody attack are well known. Let no one lose their composure or fall victim to provocation. In addition, the entire staff of the newspaper is taken to the police The publication of the newspaper “Koha Jonë”, which has become a force of the opposition and an important factor in the political life of our country, was blocked in the early hours of the morning by heavily armed police forces using armored vehicles. 23 editors and journalists, who were heading toward the building next to the newspaper premises, were arrested and taken to various police stations in the capital. 22 employees are at Police Station No. 1, and 5 of the other editors are at Police Station No. 3. Dozens of police forces continue to surround the newsroom building, where two other journalists are also inside. Blocked on the second floor of the newsroom building are 22 employees of the newspaper, while in the morning normal journalistic work was taking place. “Koha Jonë”, blocked by police forces reinforced even more than in yesterday’s case, which has caused outrage and numerous reactions. The entrance to the office of the newspaper’s editor-in-chief was blocked, bringing to mind the climate of terror that is being created in Albania. On Monday evening around 2[?] in our newsroom near the newspaper building, the night guard was killed. Nevertheless, even under this pressure, “Koha Jonë” continued publication. Now blocked in its premises, this happens a few hours after the statements about the event and the political positioning. President Berisha stood in a harsh and condemnable position. At the same time, the publication of the newspaper “Koha Jonë”, with one of the police department officers together with [?] others, remained blocked for several hours. The same observation applies to the other daily and weekly newsrooms, especially the newspaper “Aleanca”, whose offices are located in the same building, which came out closed after midday. The blocking of “Koha Jonë” makes even more explicit the oath a few hours after President Berisha’s statements, who on Monday evening said that there would be a change in the short-lived normal free traffic - to President Berisha.[?] Let no one lose their composure or fall victim to provocation.
