In a climate of calm and civic correctness, opponents of the pyramid schemes and of what is happening in Albania called on the head of state not to close his eyes and to understand the nationwide revolt. Yesterday, in defiance of the rally, the PSSH leadership commission organized a protest demonstration under the motto: “Berisha, go!” while a massive formation of the Public Order Police, “rapid intervention forces” and armed units of Unit 326, surrounded the central square with hundreds of police officers. During the protest, thousands of people carried flowers, flags and placards with slogans against the president. The crowd shouted “Berisha, resign!”, “Down with dictatorship!”, “We want free elections!” and “The people are with us!”. Among the protesters were women, young people, pensioners and family members affected by losses in the pyramid firms. Despite the calm atmosphere, the presence of large numbers of police and army created tension. From the podiums and loudspeakers, a political solution and state responsibility were demanded. Page 2

Criminal act for political motives At the meeting of 27 January 1997, at 20:30, the number of members of the Council of this PSD of the city of Kavajë reacted with concern and outrage at the joint meeting with the leaders of the PSSH District of this area.
