Minister Shaqir Vukaj received the deputy commander of the Multinational Forces
AT THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE
Today, the Minister of Defence Shaqir Vukaj received in a special meeting the deputy commander of the Multinational Forces, Italian general Giorgio Mazzal. Minister Vukaj expressed Albania's gratitude for the decision of the governments of the countries participating in Operation Alba to send 6,500 soldiers to Albania, who through their intervention are bringing the country back to normality by guaranteeing public order and peace.
Minister Vukaj stressed that the involvement of this military force in the fight against criminal activity, looting and kidnappings would increase the level of restoration of order. The deputy commander of the Multinational Forces, General Giorgio Mazzal, expressed his gratitude to Mr. Vukaj for the hospitality and assessed as excellent the cooperation between the Albanian Armed Forces and the soldiers of the countries participating in the peacekeeping mission, committing that within 7-10 days order and peace in Albania would be restored.

Among other things, a review of the trade and cooperation agreement was also discussed, which would make it possible to include Albania among the countries with preferred status. On this occasion, the smooth conduct of democratic parliamentary elections was discussed, along with the assistance and conditions for their development, and the desire was expressed that they be free, democratic and fair. These issues were raised by both sides during the talks, in which the socialists assured the EU delegation, through its envoy for our country Mr. [Mauro?] [Dolin?], that the socialists are entitled to the place of the winning party and that the elections would be conducted by a democratically administered government according to European principles of welfare and understanding.
